Movember is now over – Thank you for your support!

This is my first year participating in Movember  as part of the Cassels Brock Movember Team. In case you have missed the many gentlemen walking around in November with moustaches (also called ‘staches’ or ‘Mos’) and wondered why they would be doing such a thing, it is for Movember!

Movember provides support for world-class men’s health programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges. These programs, directed by the Movember Foundation, are focused on:

  • awareness and education;
  • living with and beyond cancer;
  • staying mentally healthy;
  • living with and beyond mental illness; and
  • research.

Programs in these areas help to achieve the vision of an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. To find out more, visit the programs section of Movember’s website at: http://ca.movember.com/programs.

Confused with Mo Bro protocol

As a first year Mo Bro, unfortunately, I was a little confused. As you can see from the photo  below (taken this month), I had a goatee. Some Movember purists  question whether a beard or goatee truly conforms to accepted Movember doctrine. Consulting the FAQ on the official Movember website, I now see that they specifically addressed whether a goatee or board is allowed.  Here is what it states:photo the following, “We’re afraid not. Movember is about real men growing real, authentic moustaches. It’s the moustache which causes an average of 61 people to ask each Mo Bro why he’s growing it. To be a true Mo Bro you should start completely clean shaven on Movember 1st and grow a Mo.” The definition of a Mo states the following:
  • there is to be no joining of the Mo to your side burns – That’s considered a beard;
  • there is to be no joining of the handlebars – That’s considered a goatee. (Oops, I think  I missed this one!); and
  • a small complimentary growth under the bottom lip is allowed (aka a tickler).

 I have now seen the light!

Thanks to the help from my team, I have seen the light. As Cassels Brock’s Team Captain Chris Horkins stated, “only with great devotion to the ways of the Mo do we truly gain enlightenment.

As you can see from the photo, I subsequently shaved off the goatee and what is left is the true Mo.  I am now enlightened!

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who has donated and to those who plan to donate to a worthy cause. Donations can be made here.

Post Script

I must admit, this was a particular interesting experience.  I cannot count the number of people who did not like my Mo including my family and friends and the number of cracks about my 1970s look!  :)   I thought it was funny but worth the abuse for good cause.  To be honest, I look forward to shaving it off!

See you next year my fellow Mo Bros!
